Knaresborough Golf Club

Knaresborough Golf Club
Knaresborough Golf Club is one of the most scenic golf clubs in North Yorkshire. Knaresborough enjoys a well deserved reputation as an innovative, but welcoming club which rises to the challenge. Because of this the club is surging in popularity and is unusual in gaining a growing membership.

The largest investment that Knaresborough has recently made is in a new state-of-the-art irrigation system. The club asked local irrigation contractor Full Circle Ltd for advice. Robert George of Full Circle had no hesitation in recommending a Hunter Pilot control system and Hunter G885D sprinklers and asked Irriplan to provide the design, specitiication and technical input. Irriplan Ltd have a wealth of experience in the specifying and implementation of large and intricate irrigation system installations.

The Challenge

The installation of the new irrigation system at Knaresborough Golf Club began without incident, but unfortunately the weather conditions soon turned—parts of the course became waterlogged. With record levels of rainfall early in the season the schedule became tighter for the greens staff at Knaresborough to ensure that the course could be prepared in time for the new playing season. As a result, it was imperative that the new irrigation system be quick and easy to install as well as have the traditional benefits of reliability, efficiency, ease of service and use

The Solution

For Knaresborough Golf Club the decision was straightiorward Hunter’s DIH (Decoder-InHead) G885 rotors for the greens/approaches and Pilot-CC sotiware operating through the Pilot DH hub. The DIH rotors offer total top access to all of the rotor’s internal components due to their exclusive and patented Total Top Servicing (TTS) features. Hunter’s DIH rotors also offer Total Top Programming (TTP) of the decoder’s station address, another patented technology from Hunter. With the unique DIH features, there was no need to disrupt the playing surface or disassemble the installed rotors in order to access the decoders. The Pilot-DH hub and Pilot-CC sotiware were delivered to Knaresborough pre-programmed and tested with a photographic view of the course including the sprinklers installed as a part of the package.

The project was handed over with full training having been given to the greens staff at Knaresborough plus full GPS plans of the installed irrigation system.
