Coxmoor Golf Club

Coxmoor Golf Club

Coxmoor Golf Club with its storied history is located in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire England. It is a rare par 73 (6,577 yard) private heathland golf course with tree lined fairways constituting a challenge fit for golfers of all levels. In recent years, Coxmoor Golf Club hosted a number of prestigious events including the regional qualifications for The Open Championship and the Seniors Open Golf Competitions. Course Manager Ben Cumberland and staff ensure that Coxmoor maintains a fixture among the top 100 inland courses in the UK.

Coxmoor Golf Club approached Adrian Handbury to design a new irrigation system that would allow maximum flexibility with a minimum of disruption to the historic course. This was to be installed by Irrigation Control of Cheshire who were chosen because of their proven track record of quality installations throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.

The Challenge

The scheduled installation of the new irrigation system started much later than expected at Coxmoor Golf Club. With record levels of rainfall early in the season the schedule became even tighter for the greens staff at Coxmoor. As a result, it was imperative that the new irrigation system be quick and easy to install as well as have the traditional benefits of reliability, efficiency, ease of service and use

The Solution

For Coxmoor Golf Club the decision was straighforward Hunter’s DIH (Decoder-InHead) G875 and G885 rotors for the greens/ approaches and AGC decoder control system with Surveyor 2 sotiware. The DIH rotors offer total top access to all of the rotor’s internal components due to their exclusive and patented Total Top Servicing (TTS) features. Hunter’s DIH rotors also offer Total Top Programming (TTP) of the decoder’s station address, another patented technology from Hunter. With the unique DIH features, there was no need to disrupt the playing surface or disassemble the installed rotors in order to access the decoders. The AGC decoder control system and Surveyor central control sotiware were easy to install and program as well. Together, the net result was a quick and smooth installation. This allowed the crew to regain much of the lost time resulting in a successful project commission .

The project was handed over with a full GPS survey shown on both the Surveyor sotiware and as a mounted copy for the wall.
